The XBOX-version of Sid Meier's Pirates! has received the award of best adventure game of the year from IGN. Call of Cthulhu and Indigo Prophecy (aka Farenheit) was runners up.

Pirates is one of those titles where no one element is incredibly amazing, yet as a whole, Pirates is easily one of the most addicting games that we've ever played -- ever!

Designer Diary #6 - Identifying for the better - (XBOX)
Thursday, 28.07.05 | Captain's Diary | Log Entry By KriFos

This is just in from Firaxis, the sixth Designer Diary for Sid Meier's Pirates! for Xbox. This time it's Firaxis' Senior Producer, Barry Caudill who is writing the diary, and it's about identifying good things that changed the development of Pirates! Xbox for the better.

Please note that the diary didn't come with an official "title", so I had to come up with one myself.

In trying to figure out some of the key moments from the development process, I found that there were actually quite a few. The first time I saw a ship navigating the Caribbean on an Xbox dev. kit – albeit briefly. The first time we had the full game running on the dev. kit but still using the kit’s full 128 Megs of Ram. When we finally got the memory usage down so the game would run in 64 Megs. Hearing the first trash talk from a vs. ship battle game. Even seeing the first prototype for the Even the Odds mini game was special but there were a couple others that were even better.
